We built a real-time AI license plate recognition engine at the heart of a community access platform. Computer vision reads each plate as the car approaches, scores its own confidence, cross-checks the vehicle, and makes an access decision in a fraction of a second—turning the gate from a manual chokepoint into an intelligent, self-documenting checkpoint.

Problem
Goal
At the gate, security was either slow and inconsistent—a guard squinting at a plate and a printed list—or wide open via shared keypad codes, and neither left a record of who actually drove through. Automating it meant reading dirty, angled, night-time, and out-of-state plates correctly, fast enough to decide before the car even stops.
Solution
How we solved it
Built a confidence-scored computer-vision pipeline that detects, OCR-reads, and scores each plate, abstracting Plate Recognizer, Eagle Eye Networks, and Turing AI behind one engine. High-certainty reads open the gate touchlessly; ambiguous ones route to a guard for a one-tap confirm, every read is checked against allow, deny, and watchlists, and a vehicle fingerprint guards against cloned plates.
